All behold the glory of the weekend! That window of opportunity when you can kick off your heavy work boots and slip on your relaxation, exploration, Sunday Funday party shoes.
So, what hot things are happening over this beautiful weekend? Well, thanks to the lovely people at EveryBlock and the wonderful author of The Denver Lowdown (that’s me, btw), we’ve got your weekend activities covered.
Check it out:
Friday:
Athmar Neighborhood FREE Movie Series! Back to the Future
We all love the ‘80s, so why not enjoy this iconic Michael J. Fox flick with your friends and family. The movie screen along with various vendors will be at the west side of Huston Lake Park from 5 p.m. up until showtime at 8:30. So bring your chairs, blankets, picnic baskets, a couple of beers, snacks, and whatever else you need to have a great evening watching Marty McFly get hit on by his mom. // 5 p.m., Free, Huston Lake Park, 850 S. Bryant St.
Comedy night out: “Makeshift Shakespeare”
Ah, Shakespeare. The absurdities of his comedies, the misfortune of his tragedies, and the dramatization of his histories are all performed in a nightly original production by quick-witted, clever improvisers. If you want to see the works of Shakespeare performed on the spot, Makeshift Shakespeare will stimulate and entertain in a way only classic improv can. Denver has never seen anything like it! (photo) // 8 p.m., $10-$12, Voodoo Comedy Playhouse, 1260 22nd St.
Saturday:
Wellness Triad Challenge (Fun Run 5k)
This race for all ages is not your typical 5k. The first mile will present a mental challenge of sorts, the second mile will be an emotional challenge, and the final mile will be 100 percent physical (well, technically the entire thing is 100 percent physical, but that’s neither here nor there). Invite your friends, family, and challenge yourself this Saturday! (photo) // 9 a.m., Free, Bible Park, Yale & Monaco Parkway.
FLAT OUT Jazz … Live at La Cour!
Summer can be hard on us, what with all the heat and stuff. Live a little easier and step into an air-conditioned space and join FLAT OUT Jazz at La Cour Bistro and Art Bar. Sounds smooth and cool. Reservations are suggested. But if you can’t snag a reservation, come by around 8:30 to see if anyone from the first wave scampers off. (photo) // 7 p.m., Free, La Cour Bistro and Art Bar, 1643 S. Broadway.
Sunday:
Nerds Supporting Nerds – Promote Your Business
If you’re a nerdy lady, and you’ve got a good or service and would appreciate an opportunity to get the word out, you should speak with the Nerdy 30s Ladies of Denver. The Nerdy 30s will be putting on a showcase for small businesses and passion projects to put themselves out there. So if you’ve got an Etsy store, art studio, sell makeup, bake, teach calligraphy, or whatever, this is the event to be at and show off what you’ve got. (photo) // 6 p.m., Free, Location TBD (check the meetup page for updates).
So get out there this weekend and run wild (for one event, literally)! Events brought to you by EveryBlock.
