While the world is getting worked up talking about climate change, police abuse, and Donald Trump, we’re taking a moment to look at some of the smaller issues that really matter to us.

Boulder-based Eco-Products has teamed up with The Melt, a rapidly growing fast-casual restaurant chain that specializes in all-natural, better-for-you, super happy comfort foods to solve a problem that has plagued chefs, restaurants, and caterers since the grilled cheese first entered our world:

How to keep a grilled cheese fresh and ooey-gooey.

Everybody loves a good grilled cheese: a wonderfully cheesy inside, a crispy-crunchy outside. What’s not to love? But when it comes to delivering this heart-warming sandwich, the recipients often find themselves disappointed with what they had received: a sad, sad grilled cheese.

For most of us, we’ve simply succumbed to the idea that grilled cheese just doesn’t travel well. The bread gets soggy, the cheese congeals, and hearts are broken. Grilled cheese is just something you have to eat fresh. Right?

Not anymore.

That’s why the Melt and Eco-Products developed the “Smart Box” – the food industry’s first catering delivery system using sophisticated software to perfectly balance humidity, heat, and air circulation.

The “Smart-Box” was designed with a number of wonderfully innovative features, such as: crisping ridges to elevate the sandwich off the base and allow air to flow around the sandwich. This totally prevents moisture from becoming trapped underneath the sandwich, completely ruining the grilled cheese. And moisture ventilation, which are strategically placed ventilation slots that allow moisture and cooler air to escape.

Also, the container is 100 percent compostable, meaning that you won’t have any of your environmentalist friends shaming you. Get off your high horse you green monster. My grilled cheese is eco-friendly.

This ground-breaking container has won two prestigious awards from the Foodservice Packaging Institute and QSR magazine, respectively: The Second Place Award for Performance Innovation, presented for design innovations that improve product performance, and The Third Place Award for the “Wow” Factor, presented for innovative packaging that best personifies the “Wow” effect when consumers or foodservice operators use or see the packaging.

There’s a lot to be upset about in this world. But, at least as the holidays begin to roll around, we can take solace in the fact that the ability to deliver and maintain the perfect grilled cheese exists.

Now that’s a miracle.
