Universal’s new film The Secret Life of Pets, which has just been released, explores that curiosity with its star-studded cast, 3D animation and clever writing. But movies, as entertaining as they are, are nothing like real life. Louis CK doesn’t voice our dog, our pets don’t team up to go on adventures, nor do they engage in shenanigans.

Now you know you’re gonna need this if you’re gonna keep an eye on those secretly mischievous pets of ours. Our pets are sometimes smarter than we give them credit for. Look, we need to make sure our pets are comfortable while we’re away from home. If there’s a heat wave going around, we might want to save some extra money by leaving the air conditioning off. And sometimes that means we forget about our pets’ comfort. Our pets are our best friends. We love them dearly and we want them to be safe, comfortable and most importantly, happy. When we leave the house to go about our daily lives, our pets are forced to entertain themselves. Sometimes they get lonely, sometimes they’re totally fine and other times they use the opportunity to get into some mischief, just like the furry fiends in The Secret Life of Pets.
Thankfully the technology exists that allow us to peek into our pet’s world when we’re not around. No longer do we have to wonder what they do without us. We can just turn on a device and see for ourselves.
