Do you ever wonder what your pets are up to when you leave the house? What kind of mischief do they get into? Wouldn’t it be great to be a fly on the wall while our pets have free reign of the house? The simple answer is, of course, yes.
Universal’s new film The Secret Life of Pets, which has just been released, explores that curiosity with its star-studded cast, 3D animation and clever writing. But movies, as entertaining as they are, are nothing like real life. Louis CK doesn’t voice our dog, our pets don’t team up to go on adventures, nor do they engage in shenanigans.
But what if we could spy on our pets’ secret lives? What if we had devices to keep our furry friends out of trouble? What if we could peek into their daily routines without the help of a screenwriter or animator?
Guess what? We totally can. Here’s how:
24/7 Video Recording
This one’s pretty obvious. If you’re going to peek at what your pets are up to when you’re not around, you definitely need some ‘round-the-clock surveillance. There are quite a few products out there to achieve this, but none better than the Xfinity Home 24/7 Video Recording. With this, you can record, rewind and review up to 10 days of footage in and around your home. So if your dog or cat gets into the garbage, or knocks an expensive vase over, you have the evidence to totally bust them.
Sensors and Alarms
Now you know you’re gonna need this if you’re gonna keep an eye on those secretly mischievous pets of ours. Our pets are sometimes smarter than we give them credit for. They can open doors and windows, or get into a space you do not want them to get into. Some of these new, innovative motion sensors can send you alerts when your pet is up to no good.
Locks
Related to our pets being able to get into spaces even they know they’re not allowed, next to motion sensors, locks are your best friends. With some of these dope locks, you can keep your scheming little buddies from getting into your personal spaces with delicate, expensive devices.
Thermostats
Look, we need to make sure our pets are comfortable while we’re away from home. If there’s a heat wave going around, we might want to save some extra money by leaving the air conditioning off. And sometimes that means we forget about our pets’ comfort. If you’re checking out your camera live feed and see a very hot and uncomfortable cat lying on the hardwood floor in an attempt to stay cool, you might want to remotely change the thermostat with these sweet smart thermostats.
Use What You Got
The beauty of systems like Xfinity Smart Home is that you can easily sync your own devices so that you can remain comfortable without learning new technology. We may have video surveillance and motion sensors we’re already comfortable with and we know are reliable for keeping our pets in check. Rather than buy entirely new devices to watch your pets, why not upgrade what you’ve already got?
Our pets are our best friends. We love them dearly and we want them to be safe, comfortable and most importantly, happy. When we leave the house to go about our daily lives, our pets are forced to entertain themselves. Sometimes they get lonely, sometimes they’re totally fine and other times they use the opportunity to get into some mischief, just like the furry fiends in The Secret Life of Pets.
Thankfully the technology exists that allow us to peek into our pet’s world when we’re not around. No longer do we have to wonder what they do without us. We can just turn on a device and see for ourselves.
So, if you don’t mind, I’m going to leave you to go see The Secret Life of Pets again. And again. And probably one more time after that.
